Russian-American Nuclear Cities Initiative
International Development Center IDC-Snezhinsk
History

Fund “International Development Centre – Snezhinsk” (IDC) started its operation in June 2000 as a non-governmental, non-profit organization offering business-oriented services to small businesses in Snezhinsk. The city is one of ten closed nuclear cities in Russia and it is home to the Academician E. I. Zababakhin Russian Federal Nuclear Centre - All-Russian Scientific and Research Institute for Technical Physics.( RFNC-VNIITF).

The IDC was established under the “Nuclear Cities Initiative” (NCI) - a five-year joint U.S.-Russian program that helps Russia downsize its nuclear weapons complex by assisting with infrastructure conversion and the development of a business-friendly environment in Russia's closed nuclear cities.

Mission

The IDC is a non-profit, business-support centre offering broad range of consultations, training and commercial project facilitation to entrepreneurs, companies and governmental agencies in the closed city of Snezhinsk.

The IDC works to prevent the transfer of sensitive nuclear technology by helping provide a stable, robust and healthy economic climate in which former employees of downsized facilities in the nuclear-military industrial complex can find gainful employment in commercial business.
